Aiken Steeplechase Association Makes a Change for 2006

Aiken, South Carolina – April 3, 2006 - The Aiken Steeplechase Association, a semi-nonprofit organization that hosts two steeplechase racing events sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association each year, is comprised of a volunteer Board of Directors, as well as community members and other supporters.

The association strives to perpetuate the rich history of steeplechasing in Aiken for such events as the Imperial Cup in March and the Holiday Cup in October. They recently held the Aiken Spring Steeplechase, the second leg of the city’s Triple Crown, at the Aiken Horse Park.

After having served on the board of the Aiken Steeplechase Association for approximately 15 years, R. Bruce Duchossois, owner of the Aiken Horse Park, has announced that he is stepping down as Vice President of the Aiken Steeplechase Association and resigning from its board of trustees.

Best known for his involvement as an owner and rider of hunters and jumpers and for his support of event rider Phillip Dutton, Duchossois sites a “lack of communication and irreconcilable differences” as his reason for resignation. “There are no current plans to discontinue the Steeplechase at the Aiken Horse Park,” he commented.

Duchossois is a life member of the American Steeplechase Association, United States Eventing Assocation, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the United States Equestrian Federation. He is also a member of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. He is on the board of the United States Equestrian Team Foundation, is an active member of the American Hunter Jumper Foundation and the American Driving Association, and serves on the board of the Equestrian Aid Foundation.
