The American Shetland Ponies Are on YouTube.com!
Equestrian News Release
Morton, IL- The Chinese gave United States the Panda bears and the American Shetland Pony Club (ASPC) gave Hong Kong two beautiful Shetland ponies. As a tribute to the tremendous effort the Hong Kong Equestrian Club (HKEC) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) put forth to host the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Games in Hong Kong. Now, highlights of the touching “Hand-Over” Ceremony held July 10th in Hong Kong can now be seen on the popular website YouTube.com.
Under the direction of Dr. Simone Ip, President of the HKEC, the Club hosted a captivating presentation ceremony to receive the ponies. This has all been captured on YouTube.com for everyone to enjoy. Zona Schneider, Director of Operations for ASPC and Marketing Director, Johnny Robb, were on hand to present the tiny ambassadors to the city of Hong Kong. The ponies were welcomed into individual public riding schools where Hong Kong’s young equestrians will learn how to ride on them.
In effort to completely assimilate the American Shetlands into their culture, Ip announced a Pony Naming Contest to be held in Hong Kong to give the ponies new Chinese names. The response from the people of Hong Kong was powerful.
Among hundreds of entries the suggested two winning names were three Chinese characters meaning “precious,” implying that FMF Imagination the brown and white Pinto Shetland Pony will be much treasured and loved by the people of Hong Kong. The second set of three Chinese characters meant “remarkable,” implying that PC Karmel Kid is the outstanding pony of Hong Kong.
The YouTube.com presentation of the event is a charming and not to be missed video of the “Hand-Over” ceremony. Elated with the energy the ponies created in Hong Kong, Ip states, “On behalf of the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation, I would like to thank the American Shetland Pony Club for their generosity and kindness in giving us this magnificent pair of Shetland ponies.”
“Thanks to the vision of the American Shetland Pony Club and a handful of visionary equine companies, we are able to share our wonderful American Shetland Ponies with the riders in Hong Kong,” said Robb. “We are delighted to play a small role in honoring their Olympic effort.”
