Andalusian Andalusian Named
Equestrian News Release
The International Andalusian & Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) has named Laura Amandis one of the people to be awarded the title 2006 Goodwill Ambassador for the Andalusian Horse. The honorary title was bestowed upon Laura by the Directors of the IALHA in recognition of the work she has done in presenting the Andalusian breed in its finest light.
For the last several years, Laura Amandis has been performing with her white Andalusian Stallion, Acierto, in venues such as the Equine Affaire's Pfizer Fantasia, the Midwest Horse Fair and the Andalusian National Show. Laura's and Acierto are demonstrating the capabilities of the Andalusian to a whole generation of North American aficionados. Laura rides Acierto in La Garocha. But the real crowd-pleaser is their amazing liberty routine. At complete liberty and in response to only the subtlest of cues, the magnificent Acierto dances with Laura, prancing, pirouetting, and rearing in a routine that stuns the crowd to silence. Brenda Hammar, who worked the IALHA booth at the Massachusetts Equine Affaire says, "I was amazed at the number of people who said that her performance was so beautiful that they cried."
Andalusians are known for their eye-catching beauty. But for people who have been lucky enough to work with them, possibly the most valuable Andalusian characteristics are their willingness to please their owners, their trainability and their docile temperament. Laura has worked with horses all her life. She feels that the Andalusian stallion Acierto embodies all of the traits that she had admired in the many other breeds that she had worked with during her career as a trainer.
A rider since the age of 4, Laura Amandis started performing in the circus as a rosinback rider and later performed at Arabian Nights. "During the time I spent there I had the privileged honor of working with some of the world’s greatest horse trainers such as the late legendary Glen Randall and his son Corky." Laura says, "My life has always been training and performing. I want to WOW the crowd with something that they haven’t seen before. The ultimate compliment for me as a trainer is when someone recognizes my work in a performing horse and asks: 'Did Laura Amandis train this horse?'”
You can see Andalusian Ambassadors, Laura Amandis and Acierto, perform throughout the US and Canada. This year's schedule includes: Michigan Horse Expo, March 10-12, Can Am in Ontario Canada, March 16-19, Equine Affaire in Columbus Ohio, April 6-9 and throughout the year at Animal Gardens in Lake Geneva Wisconsin.
