Athena Technologies Extends Sponsorship of Local Equestrian

WARRENTON, Va., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Athena Technologies announced today it will renew its sponsorship of 2008 Olympic equestrian team hopeful Jennifer Simmons of Middleburg, VA. One year ago Athena, in its first foray into sport sponsorship, chose to back Simmons' Olympic bid as a means of expressing support not only for Simmons personally but for the regions' leading sporting interest.

Jennifer Simmons is a well-known national level competitor in the sport of Eventing -- a competition wherein a team of horse and rider compete together in three separate phases: dressage, endurance/cross-country, and show jumping.

Early in her career Simmons trained with three-time Olympic eventer James Wofford at his Upperville, VA training center and competed to the Advanced Level -- the pinnacle of eventing. In 2001 Simmons launched her own operation, JCS Stables, putting her competitive ambitions aside as she spent time establishing herself as a professional.

Athena's financial support via the sponsorship has allowed Simmons to return to the upper-level competitive arena and significantly step up her own schooling. Simmons is currently training with Jan Thompson, 2004 United States Olympic Event Team member.

"Athena's sponsorship has allowed to me to train and compete several horses on a regular basis and this has enabled my riding to take a great leap to the next level," said Simmons. "My hope is that next year will bring great things and that I will start to see some of the results from all of the hard work we did this year."

David W. Vos, PhD, Athena's president and founder, is himself an eventer who competes at the regional level and understands the level of commitment and dedication it takes to participate in the sport. "I am delighted to continue promoting the 'Sport of Kings' in our home in Virginia, through Jenn's sponsorship. Eventing and all that it encompasses, is a wonderful microcosm of the challenges, focus, determination and commitment that succeeding in business demands. It is a true pleasure to build our business in a region like Virginia where all of these facets are embraced by a community that shares a deep love and respect for both business and equestrian sport."
