Equestrian Getaways: Costa Rican Style

When it comes to equestrian getaways, there are many options. You can choose to see the local countryside, or you can venture out to new and exciting arenas. Many riders may be hesitant to travel to exotic locals, because of the lack of information available to them. This year, if you are looking for something new and different consider Costa Rica for your next equestrian adventure. You will be amazed at the sights and sounds that await you in this jungle paradise.

Beautiful Sites

If you are unfamiliar with Costa Rica, you may want to spend some time researching the various sites you will encounter online. Doing a search on google.com should give you a wealth of information that would be valuable to planning your next horseback riding trip. There are at least a dozen different riding tours available in the country, and all of them have something unique and exciting to offer. You can choose from beach side destinations or go further inland to experience the jungle. Costa Rica is also home to many active and dormant volcanoes, so you can explore all of the different ecological gems that surround the basins and surrounding villages.

Exciting Activities

One of the exciting things about Costa Rica, is their equestrian centered culture. At certain times of the year, you will be amazed at all of the horse related activities and celebrations centered on the quadrupeds in the different villages and towns. In many parts of the country, horses are still a main source of transportation and recreation so you can really get a feel for how the villagers live. They will invite you into their homes and farms, for an experience that you will not soon forget.

Some of the more popular activities during the summer months include:

  • Racing
  • Rodeos
  • Sight seeing
  • Jousting

Planning Your Trip

As with any equestrian getaway, it is important to plan ahead for all possible scenarios. You want to find out the specifics of travel packages, and make sure that you have all your bases covered. Finding a reputable tour company is a fairly easy task, with the help of the internet. Some of the questions that you want to get answered before you book a trip are:

  • How long is the trip and how much of that will be spent riding? Some trips may include a few hours of riding a day, while others may offer a full 8 hours of horseback riding. Choose a travel package that appeals to your own personal tastes.
  • What supplies do I need to bring? You will want to choose a package that includes all of the supplies for both rider and horse, whenever possible. You will be traveling to Costa Rica via plane and don’t want to have to carry extra luggage and gear.
  • How much does the trip cost? Does the price include night accommodations and meals or will that be extra? Make sure to get the bottom line on the total trip cost, including any equipment rentals.
  • What will I actually see? Find out what you will see during your travels, and if there are any specific areas that should be of interest to you. That way you can read up prior to the trip to make the most out of your riding.

Enjoy the Ride

Costa Rica is not often thought of as an equestrian hot spot, but you will be pleasantly surprised at all the secrets and joys that lie ahead of you if you plan ahead. With a little bit of homework and time, your trip can be both fun and educational. Enjoy the Ride!
