HEART’s New State-of-the-Art Ambulance Provides Quicker...

And More Effective Care to Injured Equine Athletes At Major Horse Shows

Devon, PA – June 15, 2006 – Humane Equine Aid and Rapid Transport, or HEART, debuted its new state-of-the-art equine ambulance earlier this month at the Devon Horse Show. The new ambulance will help HEART improve upon its strong tradition of providing rapid care and transport for sick and injured horses.

“The new ambulance will help HEART deliver quicker and more effective care to any injured horses,” said Robin Sweely, President of HEART Equine Ambulance. “The type of care provided in an emergency can mean the difference between life and death for a beloved horse, and we hope that the new trailer will bring owners and riders some peace of mind that HEART will provide the best care possible.”

The new ambulance features an expanded trailer with a more efficient layout and state-of-the art equipment. The trailer is a 2006 4-Star Custom Built, with modifications made by Frank DiBella Deluxe Horse Vans Inc. of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Modifications include:

-Reinforced cross beam in trailer body to support horse in sling

-4 Ring tie-downs in trailer body to attach rescue glide with horse

-Removable stall walls

-Camera system with night vision

-Custom storage area on wall for rescue glide

-Additional storage space for rescue equipment

-Stainless steel sink with water supply and heater

-Generator with ability to run on provided power supply

-Outside and inside lighting

The ambulance also features a new look, with artwork designed by Thomas J. Coon Design of Charlottesville, Virginia.

The ambulance will be used by HEART to provide rapid care and transport to injured equine athletes at horse shows across the country. HEART hopes that the service will become a standard throughout the industry.

“In light of recent events at the Preakness, an on-site equine ambulance has come into the spotlight as a necessary measure to ensure that equine athletes receive a fast and effective response in emergency situations,” said Tereza Marks, Executive Director of HEART. “Shows with an on-site equine ambulance demonstrate that they take the health and safety of the equine athletes seriously.”

HEART’s new equine ambulance was made possible by the generous donations of people across the country. Major funding was provided by the Sweely Foundation.

HEART is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity that exists and is able to provide a much needed service because of the support it receives from the equine community. Its sole function is to be available at events to assist in the event of an emergency.
