It’s Time for the CANTER-Mid Atlantic Holiday Card & Carrot Drive
Gaithersburg, MD (December 1, 2008) –They’ve run to win and bring home the prize, but now, no longer able to sustain the pace, these ex-race horses come to CANTER-Mid Atlantic to rehabilitate their bodies and renew their spirit. Away from the rigors of race track training, these horses flourish in the care of CANTER-Mid Atlantic as they wait to be adopted and begin their second careers. And, for the holidays, a carrot treat is all they ask.
This holiday season please consider the CANTER-Mid Atlantic thoroughbreds and participate in the “Holiday Card & Carrot Drive” when writing greeting cards to your family and friends. “The horses of CANTER Mid Atlantic would love to be on your holiday card list,” said CANTER-Mid Atlantic Executive Director, Allie Conrad. “A small donation would enable us to purchase them a wonderful carrot treat and more.”
A donation of $5, or an amount you can afford, in your holiday card to CANTER-Mid Atlantic will buy carrots for the ex-race horses in the CANTER program. Donations above and beyond the price of a bag of carrots for every horse will go into the CANTER-MA veterinary fund that is earmarked to cover healthcare and insure every horse receives the medical care it needs.
Health care remains a critical part in the healing process of ex-race horses as their bodies rid itself of steroids and other performance drugs and acclimates to a quieter life than that on the track. Help us help these majestic horses find a better tomorrow in a second career at a new home.
