Garson Powers Her Way to Seven/Eight Year Old Young Jumper Win

The YJC 7/8 Year Old, II Sec 2 (c) was held today in the Grand Hunter Ring. It was a “Power and Speed” class for some of the brightest young equine stars. Coming away with the win was Cilthe Z, ridden by Nona Garson and owned by The Ridge Farm LLC. The young horse was fault-free in a time of 27.876 seconds.

“This mare tries to win every time she goes,” Garson said with a smile. “She’s a really good mare and likes to go fast.”

Garson appreciates that the Winter Equestrian Festival offers the Young Jumper classes. “In the shows here where you’re dealing with hundreds of entries, young horses can sometimes get lost in that program,” she explained. “You could have young horses going in a field with grand prix horses, and they’re always going to be outslicked a little bit. But here, there’s a different format to get the horses in the ring. You can jump a big enough course there and then hopefully be ready to go out in the big ring next year.”
