Crappy Book Makes Fun Gift for Horse Enthusiasts
Equestrian News Release
Rough and Ready, CA -- May 19, 2006 -- It's something all horse owners have to deal with in one way or another, so why not have a sense of humor about it?
"The Little Book of Horse Poop," by Becki Bell, is published by Palfrey Media and is probably the first-ever book devoted entirely to horse manure. The 69-page tome takes a humorous look at the history and trivia of horse poop, and includes tips for mucking-out and composting.
"It was originally going to be called '101 Ways to Make Mucking-out More Fun,'" says Bell, "But as I was researching it I discovered that there actually aren't 101 ways to make mucking-out more fun, because by its nature, mucking-out is never really going to be 'fun.' In the process of figuring this out, however, I did discover that manure actually has a pretty interesting history."
Horse manure, for example, helped to power the first practical hot air balloon. It was also used to build houses, and at least one enterprising chef who lived several hundred years ago used its natural heat-producing abilities as an oven-free way to bake a ham.
Why write a book about something most horse owners would rather forget?
"Write what you know," says Bell, who is often ankle-deep in the stuff as she performs the daily task of looking after her four horses.
The Little Book of Horse Poop is $9.95 and is only available from Lulu.com. It can be purchased at http://www.lulu.com/content/179991.
