Kentucky Horse Park Foundation Welcomes Gypsy Horse Exhibit

Kentucky Horse Park Foundation Welcomes Gypsy Horse Exhibit
Lexington, KY – July 11, 2006 – Of all the Kentucky Horse Park entities, the International Museum of the Horse is perhaps the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation’s most regular client. In addition to handling the museum’s two endowments, the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation also serves the vital role of administering the donations and grants solicited to support the museum’s exciting array of annual gallery exhibitions.

Currently an example of the quality that comes from the partnership of the International Museum of the Horse and the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation is a photographic exhibit, Gypsy Horses and the Travelers’ Way by Kentucky photographer, John S. Hockensmith.

The exhibit consists of photos and poetry of Hockensmith’s experience of the nearly 300 mile journey with the gypsies to the Appleby Fair in England. The triumph, tragedy, and enchantment of this journey, culture, and breed of horse is unparalleled.

Traveling as a guest of prominent gypsy families, Hockensmith recorded the beauty of the Gypsy horses and the love and pride they generate in their owners, all set against the background of a culture that is both changing and unchanged.

In Gypsy Horses and the Travelers’ Way, Hockensmith’s vivid photography, lively prose and visceral poetry bring to life the joys and hardships of the journey. A stunning coffee table book by the same name will be available in the Kentucky Horse Park Gift Shop.

Enhancements to the Kentucky Horse Park such as these are unachievable without the generosity of people who breed, own, show, and love horses. Financial gifts to the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation will ensure that the Kentucky Horse Park continues as an international success not only as a show facility, but also as a world-class art venue.

For more information on the exhibition or the book, contact Jim Joseph at 859-619-8180 or at red_wing@adelphia.net. For more information on Gypsy Horses, click on http://www.gypsyhorses.com.
