La Samurai Euthanized Following Rolex Kentucky Injury
Chris Stafford
Jerome and Rebecca Broussard’s gelding, La Samurai (Sparky), who sustained an injury to his near fore suspensory ligament while partnered by Amy Tryon on the cross-country course at the 2007 Rolex, Kentucky Three Day Event was euthanized on May 4, 2007. Sparky was being treated at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Lexington, KY, by the veterinary team led by Dr. Hunt as long as the continuation of that treatment remained consistent with Sparky's best interests. Six days after the injury occurred, it was determined that a positive outcome could not be achieved.
Sparky headed the leader board after dressage at the Rolex, Kentucky event and was coming to the last fence on the cross country course when the injury occurred.
Amy Tryon expressed her sadness at the loss. "I am heartbroken at the passing of Le Samurai. Sparky was a wonderful horse and a gallant partner who meant the world to me. His loss has left me indescribably sad. I want to join the Broussard’s in thanking the veterinarians who tried so hard to save him."
