New Orleans Police Department Mounted Patrol Receives Donation of New Saddles and Tack

New Orleans, LA. - The Mounted Division of the New Orleans Police Department
received a donation of 20 saddles, bridles and other equine equipment during
a special presentation at the New Orleans Police Department stables in City
Park on Friday, Feb. 2.
The donation was made by the American Association of Equine Practitioners
Foundation, headquartered in Lexington, Ky.; the Louisiana Veterinary
Medical Association's Equine Committee, headquartered in Baton Rouge, La.;
and Tucker Saddlery, located in Yoakum, Texas.
Following hurricane Katrina in 2005, both the AAEP Foundation and LVMA
Equine Committee formed equine disaster relief funds to help horses and
their caretakers. Veterinarians, horse owners, equine organizations and
corporations from across the country answered the call and donated
generously to these two groups. Since that time, both organizations have
been helping horses and their caretakers through various feed and medical
relief efforts throughout the Gulf Region.
"Donors from across the country should be thanked for the support and
willingness to help horses," said AAEP Foundation chairman Nat White, DVM.
"We are delighted to be able to give back to the New Orleans Mounted Patrol
through this donation and we thank the many partners and their donors that
have helped us to be able to do this for such an important and proud symbol
of New Orleans."
Attending this presentation were: New Orleans Police Department
Superintendent Warren J. Riley; Mounted Division Captain Clarence Hebert;
Jay Addison, DVM, representing the LVMA Equine Committee; Gary Norwood, DVM,
representing the AAEP Foundation; Joey Templat of SACS Western Store,
representing Tucker Saddlery; and various human and equine officers of the
New Orleans Mounted Patrol.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), headquartered in
Lexington, Ky. at the famed Kentucky Horse Park, was founded in 1954 as a
non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse.
Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its
over 9,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues,
practice management, research and continuing education in the equine
veterinary profession and horse industry.

charitable arm of the AAEP. Operating costs are paid by the AAEP, so
contributions are used to support programs. The mission of the Foundation

The Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA) was founded in 1905 and
incorporated in 1953. The Equine Committee is an autonomous committee
charged with the planning and execution of the equine seminar held annually
during Kentucky Derby weekend in Shreveport. In addition, the committee has
built a soccer field and basketball goals for the racetrack workers and
their families and purchased equipment for the LSU vet school. The committee
is active in support of research and equine industry activities at the
school and throughout the state. The mission and goals of the LVMA are to:
· Advance the science and art of veterinary medicine and its relationship to
the public's health and biological sciences and agriculture in the state of
Louisiana.
· Promote the health of all species and to extend to the agricultural
community and the community-at-large the benefits of sound and progressive
leadership in the diagnosis and treatment of animals. Foster, maintain and
enhance public understanding of the nature of the veterinary profession.
· Do all things necessary and desirable to further high standards of care in
the treatment of animals and continuing standards of excellence in the
professional training and continuing education of doctors of veterinary
medicine.
· Promote goodwill among its members and to seek protection of their rights
and privileges.
· Advance the maintenance of ethical standards, which reflect the learned
nature of the profession and the peculiar responsibilities of the
veterinarian to the whole community of Louisiana.
