Katherine Newman and Forever Blue Top the Charts at Upperville Colt and Horse Show

Wellington, FL – June 14, 2006 – Allwyn Court’s Katherine Newman continued her winning ways last week at the Upperville Colt and Horse Show in Upperville, VA. The junior rider, who resides in Wellington, FL, trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry Newman. She often pilots catch rides and had a successful week in the equitation classes aboard Forever Blue. Forever Blue is owned by Henri and Katie Prudent.
The fifteen year old took home top honors in the USET Show Jumping Talent Search and also earned the blue ribbon in the VHSA Medal. She finished first in the ASPCA Maclay and scored an 89 to win the WIHS Jumper Phase. After taking third place in the WIHS Hunter Phase, she finished second overall in the class. In addition, the young talent garnered second place in the USEF Hunter Seat Medal.
Newman regularly shows horses for Mimi Abel-Smith, a dedicated horsewoman who trains with Kathy and Gerry Newman. Abel-Smith competes in the Amateur Owner 36 and Over Hunters on her horse Almelo and finished fourth and seventh last week. She owns Newman’s equitation horse Timeless, as well as Gran Cru, Barcelona, and Royal D’Or.
Newman also competed with Abel-Smith’s horse Daydream in the Pre-Green 3’ Hunters and finished with high placings. Timeless was shown by Abel-Smith's step-daughter, Georgina Athur, who was visiting from Australia. The pair competed in the schooling jumpers and won two classes.
Chiana, owned by David Hopper, was also shown by Katherine Newman in the Pre-Green Hunters and earned respectable ribbons. Along with catch rides and Abel-Smith’s horses, Newman regularly competes with Pamela Dudley’s horse Castleton and her parent’s horse Corvet Z. She will show next at the Lake Placid Horse Show held from June 28- July 2 and the I Love New York Horse Show the following week in Lake Placid, NY.
