Get Ready for the NRCHYA Snaffle Bit Futurity Two-On-Two Basketball Tourney
Equestrian News Release
The National Reined Cow Horse Association has announced that
the Youth members of the reined cow horse industry will soon have their own
association.
Proposed bylaws for the National Reined Cow Horse Youth
Association have been sent to the NRCHA Rules Committee and will be
forwarded to the NRCHA Board for approval in August. The Youth association
will become part of the NRCHA in 2009, with the bylaws becoming part of the
NRCHA Rulebook and having the first NRCHYA officer elections at the 2008
NRCHA World Show in San Angelo, Texas. The fledgling organization has
already received tremendous support.
At the 2008 NRCHA Derby, the Youth held a Hoop-Shoot contest, raising money
for the club. NRCHA Youth Committee organizers Dave and Loke Allen were on
hand to help officiate and keep up with entries and were thrilled with the
success of the event. "This is the most attention we have gotten so far,"
said Loke. "It's great to have everyone out here participating and
supporting the kids!"
She added, "The Hoop-Shoot was a great opportunity for the youth
to get together and get to know each other." She also complimented the
trainers, owners, and parents who participated.
"Boyd Rice donated cash for the first twenty kids to enter.
Everyone really got into the game - both adults and kids. In the end, the
youth contestants were the ones who won!"
Carol Rose, of Gainesville, Texas, added to the money earned
from the Hoop Shoot after winning the Calcutta for the NRCHA Derby Celebrity
Cow Horse Competition Sponsored by Snaffle Bit Ranch. Rose had bought the
two winning teams the night before, and after her teams won, she immediately
donated her Calcutta winnings to the youth.
"Without our youth members, we don't have a future," she noted
later. "It is very important that we support this part of the reined cow
horse world."
In 2007, the NRCHA Youth enjoyed several get-togethers during
the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno and this year it will be more of the
same, with a Youth Stall for meetings and snacks, some special meetings, and
the first-ever NRCHYA Two-On-Two tournament will be a highlight of the
Futurity.
Any two-person team can enter by signing up at the NRCHA Media Office at the
Reno Livestock Events Center and when entries close, a bracket will be
created that will finally come down to the final four teams on Thursday,
October 2. Those final four teams will be auctioned off during the annual
NRCHA Hall of Fame Banquet.
The final four round will take place on Friday, October 3 and the final,
championship match will be held on Saturday, October 4. Winners will receive
cash. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NRCHA Youth Program.
