AT THE H.I.T.S. INDIO DESERT HORSE SHOW
Michael Van Noy, DVM, co-founder of Auburn Laboratories, Inc., expressed sincere admiration for the athletic talent and dedication shown by Grand Prix riders Joie Gatlin of San Juan Capistrano, CA and Canadian John Pearce from Stratford, Ontario during weeks one and two at H.I.T.S. Indio Desert Circuit.
Pearce definitely set the stage for this season's competition in the desert by posting an opening victory about Champagne in the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix on Friday, January 27th. Gatlin, partnered with Suncal's King, quickly answered with a most impressive victory in Sunday's $50,000 EMO Grand Prix. Determined to take home his share of Sunday's prize money, Pearce posted a 6th place with Urioso and 7th place with yet another mount, Archie Bunker.
Week two in the desert would see Pearce earn the victory and the lion's share of the $75,000 H.I.T.S. World Cup qualifier Grand Prix. Pearce and Urioso raced to an amazing victory in the jump-off narrowly besting Will Simpson and Boxster, owned by El Campeon Farms.
Auburn Laboratories, Inc. veterinarian Van Noy remarked, "These horses are exactly the type of athlete for which APF was designed. Competition at this level is demanding, both physically and mentally, and APF is formulated specifically to help maintain optimal physical conditioning and mental alertness, especially under stressful conditions. APF product development relied extensively on research which had been gained in the field of human sports nutrition, as well as veterinary medicine."
APF was introduced at the H.I.T.S. Desert Circuit in February 2000, and both Gatlin and Pearce were among the first, along with show jumping legend Susie Hutchison, to incorporate the innovative technology into their feeding and training protocols. Morley Abey, Joie's husband and partner in the Joie Gatlin Show Stables, noted, "We became certain of the value of APF the first time we used the supplement to ship our horses to Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Canada. Even the young horses got off the van feeling great and ready to compete."
Although many top competitors are reluctant to share their conditioning secrets, APF has made its way from the world of show jumping to three day eventing and the stable of Olympic medalists Karen and David O'Connor. Karen and David added APF to their nutritional protocol three years ago in order to improve endurance and muscle development in their string of elite international eventers. The O'Connors' endorsement is simply stated. "We love APF!"
