Ocala, FL—Sharn Wordley continued his winning ways during the Florida season with numerous blue ribbons and loads of prize money. The time in Florida caps three successful years that the New Zealand native has spent in the United States. During that time he has won more than 30 grand prix coast to coast, including the $25,000 Surfside Grand Prix in Del Mar as well as Grand Prix in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Arkansas and Tennessee.
“Florida has been a lot of fun,” Wordley said. “The courses have been well-designed and the competition has been great.” Wordley is preparing his stable for a summer in Europe. “Competing in Europe is really essential when you are hoping to make international teams.” Prior to coming to the United States Wordley spent several years showing on the European circuit at shows like CSIO Rome. “Riding alongside the best riders in the world really takes your game to a whole new level.”
Among Wordley’s equine stars throughout the Florida circuit was the 9-year-old KWPN gelding, Rockville, who placed in the top four in three Grand Prix. Wordley says, “This is a horse for the future. He has lots of scope, but he’s still young. He’s a lovely horse to be around.”
Mr. Flanagan, Wordley’s partner for several Grand Prix wins, continued to be a standout. The bay gelding earned five top-five places in the Grand Prix in Jacksonville and Ocala.
With Medrano, Wordley won the $10,000 Footing Authority Prix during the last week of the HITS Ocala series. Medrano also won the Welcome Stake during the last week of the Jacksonville circuit, helping Wordley to the $10,000 High Point Grand Prix rider bonus of the four-week series.
Wordley will now prepare for his summer tour by resting his horses and attending a few shows in Aiken and Tennessee.
