Lake Placid, NY - July 10, 2007 - Last week Alexandra Thornton rode her way to two championship ribbons after she took top honors in both the Small and Large Junior 15 & Under Hunter divisions at the I Love New York Horse Show in Lake Placid, NY. Thornton, who resides in Bedminster, NJ, trains under the tutelage of Susie Humes, one of the equestrian industry's top judges and trainers.
Two weeks prior to the show in Lake Placid, Thornton competed at the Saratoga Classic Horse Show with horses from her farm, Dunwalke. In Saratoga, she took home the blue ribbon in the Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic with Naomi and was double clear in every class in their division. She also did well in the equitation and qualified for the USEF Hunt Seat Medal Finals.
Humes commented, "Alexandra was first and second in the USEF Medal the two weeks of Saratoga, with over 35 riders in each class. That, along with her first and second at the two Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, has qualified her for the USEF Medal Finals at Harrisburg. This was a major goal for her as we just started the big equitation classes the last week of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Palm Beach."
Including the two weeks in Saratoga and the one week at Lake Placid, Thornton was champion all three weeks in the Small Junior 15 & Under Hunters on her gelding Tobasco. "This makes it 18 [championships] in a row, I think, for them as a team in the Juniors!" exclaimed Humes. "She was also Large Junior Hunter Champion at Lake Placid on High Noon - a rare double championship, especially during WCHR [World Championship Hunter Rider] week."
The horses at Dunwalke will compete next at the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows in Lexington, KY.
