VPL Introduces DURALACTIN®EQUINE JOINT PLUS

A Combination Joint Supplement

Modulates Excessive Neutrophil Response To Help Promote Normal Activity

And Promotes Joint Health And Function

PHOENIX - February 28, 2006 - A national survey* shows equine veterinarians diagnose an average of 144 new cases of equine joint problems each year. At least 60 percent of equine veterinarians dispense a joint supplement; either alone or with an analgesic and about 25 percent of equine veterinarians recommends giving a joint supplement as a preventive measure to their equine patients.

Veterinary Products Laboratories (VPL) introduces Duralactin Equine Joint Plus to help promote normal activity with added joint health benefits. Duralactin Equine Joint Plus is a pelleted supplement that combines MicroLactin® with the added benefits of Glucosamine HCl, Chondroitin sulfate, Vitamin C, Zinc and Manganese.

MicroLactin, the active ingredient in Duralactin, contains factors that modify the neutrophil/endothelial cell interaction to reduce the emigration of neutrophils, resulting in better joint health and quicker joint recovery.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin improve synthesis of collagen, which supports production of cartilage matrix, helps stabilize the joint, and protects joint structure and function.

“The recommended dose for horses is a 1-ounce scoop, given twice a day,” said Debra Nickelson, DVM, marketing manager for VPL. “Results are seen in just 4-7 days, with peak effects in 10-14 days.”

A 1-ounce scoop, given twice a day, contains 14,000 mg of MicroLactin, 1800 mg Glucosamine HCl, 600 mg Chondroitin sulfate, 100 mg Vitamin C, 16 mg Manganese, and 30 mg Zinc. The product comes in a 3.75 pound bucket, which is expected to treat one horse for a month.

“Based on a published study** by Thomas R. Bello, DVM, PhD, and Tammy Allen, RVT, MicroLactin was used successfully to treat a variety of conditions,” said Nickelson. “This is the first paper supporting evidence based medicine on the use of Duralactin in horses.”
