FEI WEG Aachen 2006: "Exciting, Thrilling and Fair"
Equestrian News Release
576,000 visitors experience the competitions in seven disciplines - Logo and Karli remain
“We are very happy.“ Klaus Pavel, President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), is extremely satisfied. "We experienced exciting, thrilling and fair sport here at the FEI World Equestrian Games." On the final day of the event, the organisers were also pleased with the overall outcome: They were able to announce 576,000 visitors from all over the world, viewing quotas on German TV of up to 15 percent, coverage in 157 countries worldwide and the much sought-after financial “break even”.
In spite of the poor weather during the two weeks of the World Championships, Michael Mronz, member and spokesman of the Organising Committee was able to announce the targeted “break even” in the financing of the WEG. “As a result of the heavy rainfall and the thousands of spectators, we had to make further investments of course, for instance for the footing, but also for transport and the traffic situation. But since 80,000 more spectators than anticipated visited the Soers, we were able to balance out these increased costs,“ said Mronz. For him one thing is clear: “These World Championships will give the entire equestrian sport an immense impulse.“
The organisers took a brief review, before looking ahead to the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen 2007. "We will retain the very successful logo and the lovable mascot Karli in Aachen," Klaus Pavel stated. The organisers have received numerous requests from the equestrian athletes to integrate more disciplines into the CHIO, however they asked for patience in this matter. "The CHIO has a long tradition, and we therefore carry a great responsibility," said Pavel. Sports Director, Baron Wolf von Buchholtz, added: "We will now take a close look at all four new disciplines." Next year from July 3rd-8th the best equestrian sportsmen and women in the world will compete at the CHIO, when we can once again look forward to experiencing floodlit competitions in the main stadium.
