West Coast Active Riders Organization Celebrate 2004 and Plan for 2005
Equestrian News Release
San Diego, CA- January 21, 2005- The West Coast Active Riders organization (WCAR) celebrated 2004 in style at the Hi-Ho Silver Party on January 15 at Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley, CA. The costume party had a “Cowboys and Indians” theme, which ended up being a huge success. Cameras flashed the whole night, and the cowboy hats and loincloths will be immortalized in the WCAR 2004-2005 flashback documentary at the WCAR dinner during the HITS Desert Circuit in Indio, CA.
In addition to hosting the fabulous party, Hummingbird Nest Ranch was the site of the Eddie Macken clinic. Macken is the current chef d’equipe of the Irish Olympic team, a four-time consecutive winner of the Hickstead Derby, and former Olympian himself. Macken will also be the chef d’equipe for the Irish team at the Nations Cup on March 11 at the Winter Equestrian Festival. WCAR executive director, Gabriella Salick, rode in the clinic, and reported, “The flat work was fun and challenging, the gymnastic exercises were tremendously helpful, and the course work was great practice. It was so much fun and was a fantastic education for riders and horses.”
Clinic organizer Richard Padilla made the clinic run smoothly for all the participants, and David and Suzanne Saperstein were wonderful hosts at their world-class facility.
In other WCAR news, planning is underway for the Spruce Meadows Prix de Nations on July 6. Located in Calgary, Alberta [Canada], Spruce Meadows was recently voted “Best Horse Show in the World” by international riders. Owned by the Southern family, the facility offers millions of dollars in prize money, international television coverage, and one of the best grand prix fields in the world.

The divisions offered are Childrens/Amateur Adult at 1.10 meters, Junior/Amateur Modified at 1.20 meters, Low Junior/Amateur-Owner at 1.30 meters, and High Junior/Amateur-Owner at 1.40 meters.
