122nd National Horse Show and Family Festival Hosts Children’s Fair and Variety of Vendors

Wellington, FL- October 3- While the 122nd National Horse Show and Family Festival will host some of the nation’s top horses and riders, it also offers a unique experience for everyone in the family. The event will offer the Children’s Fair Celebration, presented by Chesapeake Petroleum. In addition, there will be numerous vendors on site selling equestrian-themed merchandise that ranges from furniture to jewelry.

The National Horse Show and Family Festival runs from November 30-December 4, 2005 at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, Florida.

The Children’s Fair Celebration, presented by Chesapeake Petroleum, will be held on the Great Lawn on Saturday and Sunday, December 3-4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature a Western Moonwalk, a 24’ Super Slide, a Balloon Artist, Face Painting, a Rock Climbing Wall, a Survivor Obstacle Course, and Pony Rides.

Another exciting feature of the Children’s Fair for 2005 is the expanded Petting Zoo. Also returning for the festivities will be Judy Berens of Panther Ridge Sanctuary and her feline friends.

Berens and her big cats were a hit last year. She brought Charlie the Cougar and Macho the Ocelot from their sanctuary in Wellington. Charlie is a western cougar who came to the Panther Ridge Sanctuary when he was seven weeks old. He was unable to walk due to severe metabolic bone disease, caused by a lack of calcium in his diet. Thanks to the efforts of Judy, her staff, and his dedicated veterinarian, Charlie survived and is now a healthy six year-old and a very social animal. Macho is a ten month-old ocelot who loves to play and be petted. Both cats were very quiet and well-behaved for the hours they were at the show.

Bringing the cats to the show proved to be a “very positive experience,” said Berens. She noticed that children and adults alike were very curious to see the animals. The children’s demeanor towards the cats surprised Berens, as they exhibited no signs of fear, and they were willing to come close to see them. Berens stated that “humans are a very interesting species for them to watch,” and the cats seemed to enjoy their “road trip.” Macho was on a leash for short periods of time and reveled in the attention and pats he received from the children.

Those who are ready to do holiday shopping will have lots to choose from at the National Horse Show and Family Festival. The high-quality wares will range from the very special to the most essential for every type of horseperson. They will include equestrian clothing, the latest fashion trends, accessories, jewelry, art, home furnishings, as well as tack, feed, and horse clothing. The vendors are conveniently located around the competition rings and in the main courtyard.

If you are looking for a special keepsake of the National Horse Show and Family Festival, a booth will be selling NHS clothing, hats, and posters by official NHS artist, Heidi Osgood-Metcalf.
