Post positions were selected for the 132nd Preakness on Wednesday afternoon in the ESPNzone in Baltimore, Maryland. Instead of the connections selecting posts as has been done the last few years, this year the post positions were drawn in the traditional random order pill pull. A field of only nine was drawn this year, with Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense set as the morning line favorite at 7-5 odds while his main rivals Hard Spun and Curlin were set at 5-2 and 7-2 respectively. Take me to the entries now.
Street Sense's trainer Carl Nafzger said of his draw, "It's good. I got a nice post position. We're very happy with it. I like the 8. You can sit there and read everybody, whether the pace is going or not. If the pace is not going, you get going."
Hard Spun's trainer Larry Jones said, "Post 7 worked fine in the Derby (for winner Street Sense). This horse doesn't have to do anything to commit himself. He's sat off of them in the Lane's End and he's been in front in several races. We'll just let Mario (Pino, jockey) play the game as it happens. We're very pleased. It's a long run to the first turn. We've got plenty of time to let them sort themselves out."
