2009 Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool Three

Pool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. Wood Memorial winner I Want Revenge was made the favorite at odds of 9-2 after his impressive performance on Saturday. The next choices were Florida Derby winner Quality Road at 6-1, Louisiana Derby winner Friesan Fire at 8-1, and Santa Anita Derby winner Pioneerof the Nile at 9-1. The Pamplemousse, who was scratched from the Santa Anita Derby on Saturday on the advice of the track veterinarian, was suspended from the wagering on Sunday when it was announced he was out of the Kentucky Derby due to a tendon injury. The favorite exacta combination was 9-17, I Want Revenge winning over Quality Road, with a will-pay of $49.80. The total amount wagered on the Derby Future Pool Three was $268,880.23 in the win pool and $108,278.61 in the exacta pool.

The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race. Pool 1 was on February 12-15 and Pool 2 was on March 12-15. The 135th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 2. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.

The new Kentucky Derby Futures Exacta is also at $2 minimum bet with $1 boxes and wheels also allowed as long as the total bet is at least $2. Normal exacta rules apply with the exception that the field (#24) can only be used in one position in a wager. This means you can't do an all/all box (24 with 24) but you can do any individual horse with all (1 with 24, for example).

Free BRISnet past performances for Pool Three of the Derby Future Wager are available from the Kentucky Derby website. DRF will have free past performances available here on Wednesday afternoon.
