Acupuncturists Without Borders to Hold Event at Winter Equestrian Festival

Wellington, FL - January 22, 2008 - On Thursday, January 24th, immediately following the $30,000 WEF in Wellington, FL, the non-profit organization Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB) will hold an event at the International Club located at the International Ring. The event will provide attendees with information about AWB's work with returning veterans. Founder and Executive Director, Diana Fried will be on-site to discuss AWB's work with veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

AWB was established after the devastating hurricanes of 2005 to help those in Louisiana suffering from stress and trauma. Volunteer acupuncturists from across the country treated close to 8,000 people with free acupuncture in Louisiana. With the experience and expertise of bringing community style acupuncture to the people of Louisiana, AWB is taking its service to a different population, U.S. Veterans. The Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans Project will provide free acupuncture treatments for veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan, but also welcomes veterans from all other past conflicts or wars as well as the veterans' family members.

Veterans are experiencing benefits such as a full night's sleep for the first time in years and fewer bad dreams. They are reporting improved mental clarity, less anxiety and a reduction in stress. AWB is now working with acupuncturists around the country who plan to open local clinics in their communities. Clinics in Albuquerque, Chicago, Baltimore and Portland, OR are already operational and many more locations are slated to open throughout 2008.

Acupuncturists Without Borders' vision is to see stable, peaceful, global communities. Knowing that unresolved trauma can have repercussions for decades, AWB offers the services of volunteer acupuncturists to provide treatment to interrupt this cycle and relieve suffering. Using community-style acupuncture treatment for trauma, stress, anxiety and depression, Acupuncturists Without Borders provides immediate and long term disaster relief and recovery to communities that are in crisis resulting from disaster or human conflict.
