Eat at Adam's Ribs to Benefit Canter-Mid Atlantic

10% of August Receipts go to CANTER-Mid Atlantic to Rehab and Re-Home Race Horses

Gaithersburg and Edgewater, MD (July 15, 2008) – The only thing better than the mouth-watering ribs, steaks and seafood served at Adam’s Ribs is knowing that 10% of the August dine-in and carry-out receipts will go to CANTER-Mid Atlantic and the ex-race horses they rehab and re-home. Before visiting Adam’s Ribs at 169 Mayo Rd., Edgewater, MD, to participate, download the Adam’s Ribs’ CANTER-Mid Atlantic Benefit coupon from http://www.canterusa.org/midatlantic and present it to your server so that ex-race horses in the Mid-Atlantic area can have a chance for a second career.

“My family has always enjoyed horse racing,” said Bill Bagdasian, Adam’s Ribs owner. “I’m happy to provide CANTER-Mid Atlantic an opportunity to benefit thoroughbred race horses. They are truly athletes deserving of a second chance.”

Over the last three years, CANTER-Mid Atlantic has successfully rehabilitated and placed over 45 ex-race horses into caring homes. As funds – all of which are donated – allow, it will purchase horses for rehabilitation and retraining and has assisted in placing over 2,000 thoroughbreds directly from the race track into a new home. CANTER-Mid Atlantic is currently home to 15 ex-racehorses that have begun the healing process.

CANTER-Mid Atlantic staff and volunteers regularly visit Charles Town Race Track in WV, Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, MD, Bowie Training Center in Bowie, MD, and Laurel Race Course in Laurel, MD, to meet with trainers and owners of horses that are too slow or too damaged to run races but are capable of beginning a second career.

“We are very excited about this opportunity and hope that other horse enthusiasts participate in this benefit. The horses are counting on it,” said Allie Conrad, executive director, CANTER-Mid Atlantic.

CANTER (The Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses).

CANTER-Mid Atlantic provides a free service to the Mid Atlantic racing trainers and owners to help them find non-race homes for their retiring racehorses. CANTER Mid Atlantic is incorporated in West Virginia, and is approved to operate as a 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS. Your Donations are tax deductable. To find an ex-race horse, volunteer, make a donation, or organize a CANTER Mid-Atlantic benefit, visit http://www.canterusa.org/midatlantic.

Adam's - the Place for Ribs was opened by the Bagdasian family in 1981. The original location in Edgewater, MD, has been owned and operated by the family as a neighborhood restaurant since 1965 and, with its four locations, sells over 200,000 pounds of ribs per year.
