Afleet Alex's rider may be fined for wearing sponsor's logo

Sponsor ParadisePoker.com to match potential fine with donation to cancer research

NEW YORK, NY, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeremy Rose, the jockey that rode Afleet Alex to a third place finish in last weekend's Kentucky Derby, is being questioned by racing authorities about his use of ParadisePoker.com advertising. The controversy stems from questions about whether Rose had the ParadisePoker.com logo approved by the proper authorities before displaying it on his pants during the race. The investigation could result in a penalty for Rose.

As part of the sponsorship arrangement, the owners of Afleet Alex donated all of the money paid by ParadisePoker.com to Alex's Lemonade Stand for Pediatric Cancer Research. ParadisePoker.com is in full support of Rose and is offering to match any imposed fine with a donation to the Foundation.

"We were totally shocked to hear about this investigation and are adamant that the sponsorship was done according to the rules and regulations of Churchill Downs," said Bruce Stubbs, Marketing Director ParadisePoker.com, "However, if it turns out that Jeremy receives a penalty, we will match the fine with a contribution to the foundation. No matter what happens, there will be a happy ending."

Jockeys sued last year for the right to wear advertising on their clothing during races. Three other jockeys from this year's Kentucky Derby are also being investigated for improper advertising. The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority is currently in the process of determining whether or not these riders were in violation of the rules.
