GABRIEL'S HORSES

Alison Hart's new book GABRIEL'S HORSES (Peachtree Publishers) is getting ready to hit the shelves in April 2007, and we want you to have a first
look.

Author Alison Hart mines the complex relationships between white and black, slave and master, Unionist and Confederate, and old and young in this gripping work of historical fiction. The year is 1864 and twelve-year-old Gabriel hopes to one day become a famous horse jockey, although he is the son of a free black father and a slave mother, making him a slave as well.
Gabriel loves to help his father, one of the best horse trainers in Kentucky, care for the Thoroughbred racehorses on Master Gilesıs farm. (Ages
8-12)

Hart is a highly respected author of 40 historical fiction and mystery novels for young readers, including some of the titles in the Thoroughbred, American Girl and Nancy Drew series.

Horses play a major role in several of Hartıs books, including award-winning SHADOW HORSE, which received wonderful reviews including the following by School Library Journal: "This book won't need much space, since it will be grabbed by young mystery enthusiasts and horse-story fans alike."
