NTRA President Alex Waldrop Elected to the American Horse Council’s Board

WASHINGTON, DC - The American Horse Council (AHC) is pleased to announce that Alex Waldrop, president and chief executive officer of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), has been elected to the AHC Board of Trustees.

“It is great to have an AHC Trustee with the background and knowledge that Alex Waldrop brings,” said AHC President Jay Hickey. “He has broad legislative experience not only in Washington, but also at the state level, has worked within the industry at Churchill Downs and represented varied and important racing and industry clients as an attorney. This has given him a deep, substantive knowledge of the racing industry and the important issues facing it now. We are very pleased he will be on the board.”

The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horse racing interests consisting of leading Thoroughbred racetracks, owners, breeders, trainers and affiliated horse racing associations.

“I am proud to have been elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Horse Council, an organization that is vital to the entire equine industry,” said Waldrop. “It is crucial that the NTRA builds and maintains the strongest possible ties with the AHC, as well as with various breed organizations, as we pursue a host of important initiatives in the legislative realm and elsewhere.”

Before assuming his role at NTRA this month, Waldrop was a partner at the Kentucky-based law firm of Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs where he chaired the firm's equine, gaming and entertainment practice group.

Prior to that, Waldrop spent more than 12 years with Churchill Downs, first as its General Counsel, then as President of Churchill Downs Racetrack and most recently as the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for Churchill Downs Incorporated.

As the national trade association representing the horse industry in Washington, D.C., the American Horse Council works daily to represent equine interests and investments. Organized in 1969, the AHC promotes and protects the industry by communicating with Congress, federal agencies, the media and the industry on behalf of all horse related interests each and every day.

The AHC is member supported by individuals and organizations representing virtually every facet of the horse world from owners, breeders, veterinarians, farriers, breed registries and horsemen's associations to horse shows, race tracks, rodeos, commercial suppliers and state horse councils.
