USDA Under Secretary to Speak at American Horse Council’s 2007 Issues Forum

WASHINGTON, DC – The American Horse Council (AHC) is pleased to announce that Bruce Knight, Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), will join us at our 2007 National Issues Forum to discuss the National Animal Identification System in regard to horses.

The AHC’s National Issues Forum is June 17-20 in Washington, DC. This is an exciting opportunity for the AHC to bring together industry experts and participants to discuss important national equine issues.

Special guest Bruce Knight provides leadership and oversight for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the Agricultural Marketing Service and the Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration. He will join us in an open and frank discussion on the ID system and how it affects horse owners.

Mr. Knight will speak during the general session of the AHC Issues Forum on Tuesday, June 19. The day will also include other special guests, including World Games 2010 Foundation, Inc. CEO Jack Kelly, and the following topical seminars:

• Disease Control: Who’s Really Responsible?

• The Unwanted Horse Coalition: “Own Responsibly”

• Equine Identification/National Animal Identification System: Is There Life Left?

• World Equestrian Games: A Great Opportunity for All.

• Horse Parks: Should Your State Have One?

• A Collaboration Success: Partnerships Pioneer New Programs to Maintain Trails.

The AHC also encourages forum participants to visit the congressional offices of their elected representatives and various federal agencies while in town for the Issues Forum to bring to their attention issues important to the equine industry.

The AHC will host the 2007 National Issues Forum at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC. Only a few blocks from Capitol Hill and within walking distance of the National Mall and Smithsonian Museums, L’Enfant Plaza Hotel offers immediate access to many of the most recognizable sights of our nation’s capital.

Hotel rooms are available at a special American Horse Council per night rate. However, please note that the cut-off date for guaranteeing a room at this special rate is WEDNESDAY, MAY 16th, so be sure to call to make your reservations as soon as possible. To make room reservations at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel, call 1-800-635-5065 or 202-484-1000 between the hours of 8am-10pm Mondays through Fridays and 9am-5pm Saturdays (reservations cannot be made on line or on Sundays) and ask for the American Horse Council room rate.
