AHP Member Works with LA-Based Film Company to Honor Hall of Fame Jockey, Julie Krone

Saratoga Springs, NY and Los Angeles, CA— American Horse Publications' member, Marion E. Altieri has announced that she is now affiliated with Gravity Films, a production company in Los Angeles. Gravity Films is in the process of creating The Boys' Club, the movie based on Hall of Fame Jockey, Julie Krone's book, "Riding for My Life."

Krone was the first woman ever inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame, in 2000. (In 2009, Trainer, Janet Elliot, became only the second woman to receive the navy blue jacket of Hall honorees.)

"The lingering, 19th Century sentiments—that women aren't welcome, even now, in many areas of Thoroughbred racing—is one of the factors that intrigued me about The Boys' Club. I've always been a fan of Julie, but—as a female—it never occurred to me that her path to stardom hadn't been a bed of roses. I assumed that she'd been given a fair shake every step of the way, but it was a rough road. Had it not been for Trainers like [Hall of Famer] H. Allen Jerkens giving her a leg up—literally—she might not have been able to achieve all that she has," reports Altieri.

Altieri's role as Associate at Gravity Films utilizes her penchant for networking and closely connecting with individuals, and calls on her talents and experience as a writer and editor: "I've been asked by the Producers of the film to make introductions to potential investors. I love interacting with people—a firm handshake, direct eye contact and honest interaction are my preferred method of connection, personally and professionally. This opportunity with The Boys' Club will introduce me to some fascinating people—I'm eager to get started."

The production company will begin filming in Louisiana, in January 2011. Questions about the movie may be directed to Marion E. Altieri at (859) 940-0568 (cell) or ThoroughbredWriter@yahoo.com
