Alexandra Thornton Repeats Stellar Performance for Double Tricolors at Winter Equestrian Festival

Wellington, FL – March 6, 2007 – The winning streak continues for Alexandra Thornton and her family farm Dunwalke. Once again, the 13-year-old from Bedminster, NJ, amassed top ribbons and two championships this past week at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, FL. Thornton trains with Susie Humes, a renowned trainer and judge in the equestrian industry.

Since the young rider moved up to the junior hunters in August of last year, she has earned numerous top awards and championships at some of the most prestigious shows in the nation, and some of these awards include Grand Champion at The Hampton Classic in Bridgehampton, NY, and co-Grand Champion at the 123rd National Horse Show & Family Festival in Wellington, FL.

This past week, Thornton and her chestnut gelding Tobasco were presented with championship honors for the fourth time this season in the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunters. The duo recently earned fifth place in the AHJF Hunter Classic Spectacular, with Thornton finishing as the only junior rider in the top eight.

Thornton also piloted High Noon to three blue ribbon finishes and the championship in the Large Junior 15 and Under Hunters. This is High Noon’s third tricolor of the 2007 WEF. Thornton received high placings with her other horse For The Music in the same division and just missed the reserve championship.

"We had a nice weekend," smiled Humes. "Alexandra and High Noon are developing into a wonderful combination, as I had hoped they would. Wyatt (High Noon) always tries his hardest and is the kindest, most generous horse I have ever had the pleasure to train. Tobasco always gives 100%, and Alexandra has a very special connection with him that is amazing to see in the ring."

She added, "As always, the credit for this kind of result is due to a team effort led by two great horsemen, Phil Kiley, our manager, and the genius of Charlie Weaver’s preparation and insight."

Thornton and the horses at Dunwalke will compete next at the CN Wellington Open CSIO 5*, presented by Cosequin, which will be held from March 7-11, 2007, at the Winter Equestrian Festival.
