Benefit Show Hosted by LEG to Provide Aid to Injured Horse Show Pros

Burbank, California. On February 12th, a devastating car accident in Thermal, California seriously injured three professional horsemen – Anthony Alfaro, Arturo ‘Speedy’ Diaz, and Zachary Price – who are announcers and starters at many West Coast horse shows. Because of the enormous financial costs incurred by these three men and their families, Langer Equestrian Group, Inc. is hosting a one day benefit show on Wednesday, May 23, the day before the start of the “A” rated Memorial Day Classic.

The CPHA Foundation, a charitable organization for California’s professional horsemen, set up a designated fund to provide financial assistance for the three men. All proceeds from the Benefit Horse Show will be donated to this special fund. Most of the horse show staff, and the judges, Carol Dean Porter, Rob Gage, and Walt Malkiewicz, are donating their professional fees to the charitable fund. In addition, various associations, like the PCHA and LAHJA, are waiving their fees. Both Dominion Saddlery and Granite Bay Saddlery are donating gift certificates as first place prizes.

“The accident was a tragedy and really impacted all three of these young men,” said Larry Langer, President and CEO of Langer Equestrian Group. “All three regularly work at various LEG shows and everyone on my LEG team rallied to make this Benefit Show happen.” The one day show will offer non-rated hunter and jumper classes, as well as a variety of equitation and medal classes for junior and amateur riders. “We’ve held benefit shows in the past,” explained Show Secretary Brenda Outwater “and trainers and exhibitors have really supported us. With the kind of support we’ve been getting, this kind of show can raise some significant money. All of us feel terrible about what happened and want to do something to help.”

As of the date of this press release, Anthony Alfaro is still in intensive care, Speedy is scheduled for knee surgery, and Zack is recovering back home in Colorado from a serious back injury.

People may make donations directly to the CPHA Foundation and designate the special fund set up for Anthony, Speedy, and Zach. For more information, contact Ruth Frazier at the CPHA Foundation (http://www.cpha.org/Foundation/index.htm).

Prize lists for the show are being mailed with the Memorial Day Classic or you can get them online at: http://leghorseshows.com/socal_odb_mdc07.php
