Allison Sutton Wins SWRHA Futurity Intermediate and Limited Non Pro on All About Wimpy
Equestrian News Release
Allison Sutton earned two Championships at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity, clinching both the Intermediate and Limited Non Pro titles on All About Wimpy. The pair marked a score of 218, topping the Intermediate Non Pro by three points, and the Limited Non Pro by four.
“This was really exciting. I just wanted to go out there and do my best, whatever happened. I wasn’t over-confident coming in, but I did know this mare was good,” noted the 20-year-old.
Sutton, who is a sophomore at the University of North Texas, took home a $2,268 check for the Intermediate Non Pro title, and $1,160 for the Limited Non Pro Championship. She was also awarded two saddles, and two Lawson bronzes.
Now majoring in business, Sutton knew she wanted to ride reiners since she was a young girl, and has been riding with trainer Casey Hinton for almost ten years. “He’s awesome. He’s helped me so much, and taught me everything I know,” she noted. And although she has a lot of show experience with older horses, All About Wimpy, by Wimpys Little Step and out of Crow About This, is the first futurity horse she has shown.
“It’s definitely a learning experience. I have to be a lot more patient, and she has really taught me a lot,” she said. “This is all new and exciting, and I am really looking forward the NRHA Futurity in December.”
Earning the Intermediate Non Pro Reserve Championship was Ron Thompson, who marked a 215 with Lovin Me Good. The Reserve title came with $1,380 and a Rod Teuscher custom bit. By Colonels Lil Gun and out of Sugar Baby Whiz, Lovin Me Good is owned by Ron Thompson, of Whitesboro, Texas.
The Limited Non Pro Reserve Championship went to Denton, Texas, competitor Terry Clark. Clark rode Sheza Red Pine Jac, by Brennas Red Pine Jac and out of Sheza Ms Macho, to a score of 214. The Limited Non Pro Reserve title garnered a check for $807 and Anderson Bean Boots.
The SWRHA Futurity is held annually at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma. It runs from October 21-October 26, and boasts added money of over $135,000.
