Allwyn Court’s Sales Business Produces String of Champions

Wellington, FL – September 28, 2006 – Allwyn Court, a hunter and jumper show barn based out of Wellington, Florida, is owned by Kathy and Gerry Newman and their fifteen year old daughter Katherine. The family’s dedication to training top caliber sales horses continues to produce impressive results. Last week, Katherine Newman rode Day Dream to the Pre-Green Hunter Championship at the Kentucky National Horse Show. The competition was held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, from September 20-24.

Katherine Newman started showing Day Dream, owned by Mimi Abel-Smith, this past summer. The gelding was first shown by the young rider at the Upperville Colt and Horse Show in June. In Kentucky, six year old Day Dream came away with top honors and the division tricolor.

“He is really straightforward,” said Kathy Newman about Day Dream. “He’s very smart, is quick to learn, and suits Katherine to a T. It was pouring rain in Kentucky last week, and he galloped through the puddles like it was a beautiful, dry day. Katherine really feels confident on him too; she feels like she can do anything.”

Both Kathy and Gerry Newman train their daughter, who shows in the Junior Jumpers, Junior Working Hunters, and the Equitation divisions. Katherine Newman also trains under the tutelage of grand prix professional Todd Minikus. She took home the Championship with Corvet Z in the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunters this past week. In addition, she picked up good ribbons in the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers with her horse Costa Sur.

“Katherine has done a great job with Corvet Z,” continued her mother. “He’s developing into a really nice, consistent horse. When I got hurt earlier this year, Katherine had to help out more with the riding and farm responsibilities. She has really kept the sales part of our barn going and has been giving the horses great rides in the show ring.”

Allwyn Court takes a lot of pride in their sales horses. The farm recently sold the horse Castleton, formerly owned by Pamela Dudley, to Zach Parks as a Junior Hunter. Parks and his new mount recently picked up high placings at the Middleburg Classic Horse Show. “It’s always rewarding to see a horse do well in the ring with their new owner,” said Newman.

Mimi Abel-Smith, who has been a client of the Newmans for over twenty years, currently rides in the Amateur-Owner Hunters on her mount Almelo. Around seventy years old, Abel-Smith is still an enthusiastic competitor in the arena. She won top honors recently at the RMI Chateau Elan Harvest Horse Show in Braselton, GA, and will show her mount next week at the Capital Challenge Horse Show.

Allwyn Court will accompany Abel-Smith at the Capital Challenge Horse Show, where Katherine Newman will show Day Dream and Corvet Z. She will pilot Timeless, also owned by Abel-Smith, in the equitation classes and will later show the bay horse in the USEF Medal Finals in Harrisburg, PA, and the ASPCA Maclay National Championships in Syracuse, NY. In the jumper arena, she will ride Costa Sur in the Prix de States in Harrisburg and in the Junior Jumpers at Syracuse.
