Allwyn Court Wraps Up Successful 2007 Show Year, Prepares for Upcoming Winter Season

Wellington, FL - November 19, 2007 - Allwyn Court, a hunter/jumper show stable based in Wellington, FL, and Upperville, VA, had a stellar 2007 competition year. Kathy and Gerry Newman own and manage Allwyn Court and train their 16-year-old daughter Katherine. Attending some of the most prestigious shows in the country, Allwyn Court and its many students added impressive ribbons and awards to its tack room this past year.

Katherine Newman regularly shows in the high junior jumpers with her stallion Costa Sur, and she moved up to the grand prix level over the summer at the Vermont Summer Festival. Newman earned fifth place in her first grand prix. Additionally, she showed at the CN North American Junior and Young Riders' Championships in Lexington, VA, for the very first time. She and Costa Sur had an incredible show, and Newman received the highly esteemed individual gold medal after five grueling rounds of intense competition.

"My gold medal at Young Riders is one that is very significant to me," said Katherine Newman. "It was my first big win in the junior jumpers, and it was a hard, but fun, competition. It was a really great experience seeing all the riders from across the country and from other countries. Another memorable accomplishment in 2007 was my fifth place in my first grand prix. I had no expectations, but I had two clear rounds which was really exciting for me."

Her mother Kathy Newman added, "It was a great year for us because we were able to win from the Adult Amateurs to the Grand Prix level at every major horse show in the country. For me personally, to be able to train Katherine to her first grand prix ribbon and to the individual gold medal at Young Riders, is truly a personal achievement."

Along with moving up in the jumper ring, Newman also piloted countless catch-rides to championships in the hunter and equitation rings. She earned impressive tricolors with such horses as Corvet Z, Due North, Nairobi, Shiraz, Forever Blue, Daydream, Almelo, Mirkwood, Apollo, Onassis, Urco and Agincourt. Additionally, she pinned with catch-rides Zenith, Alaska, Chop Chop, Latino, Game On, Eltonn, Cayman, Titleist, KLM's Mister McCloud, Redwood, and Undercover.

"This year was better than I could have ever imagined," Katherine Newman smiled. "I learned a lot about my horses and got to show a number of great catch-rides. I definitely gained a lot of experience and self-confidence."

"With Costa Sur, I think we really bonded this year," she revealed. "I've noticed how our relationship has changed, even with small things and not necessarily in the show ring. For example, when we first got him, he would turn away from me when I walked into the stall and wouldn't let me put his halter on. Now he's really happy, and he knows me when I walk in and pet him. He feels comfortable with me, and I feel a lot more comfortable with him. In the ring, I know where I can test him, and I know where I have to sort of keep track of him and not take things for granted. I've learned how to go fast on him and when I can push him."

Allwyn Court riders who earned high placings in 2007 include: Mimi Abel-Smith, who showed Almelo in the older Amateur-Owner Hunters; Tracey Topping, who won ribbons with Eltonn in the jumper ring and Espoir du Fief III in the adult hunter and equitation classes; Sarah Alvarez, who competed with Titleist in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunters; Melissa Cohn, who showed her horse Bulgari in the Adult Amateur 46 & Over Hunters; and Christina Firestone, who competed with Farnley Byron in the pony hunters.

In 2007, Allwyn Court successfully competed at the Winter Equestrian Festival, Littlewood Horse Shows, Kentucky Spring and Summer Horse Shows, Showplace Spring Spectacular Horse Shows, Lake Placid Horse Shows, Upperville Colt and Horse Show, Vermont Summer Festival, Capital Challenge Horse Show, Lexington National Horse Show, The Hampton Classic, Pennsylvania National Horse Show, and the Syracuse Sporthorse Tournament. The riders at Allwyn Court will compete next at the upcoming 2008 Winter Equestrian Festival and the Littlewood Horse Shows in Wellington, FL.
