Allwyn Court's Katherine Newman Seizes Triple Tricolors at Country Heir Horse Show

Lexington, KY - June 16, 2008 - Katherine Newman of Allwyn Court Farm garnered three tricolor awards this past week at the Country Heir I Horse Show in Lexington, KY. Seventeen-year-old Newman competed in the older junior hunter divisions and accrued excellent ribbons aboard Almelo, All The Answers, Cool Blue, and Lifetime Guarantee. The young rider resides in Wellington, FL.

In the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters, she showcased Almelo for Mimi Abel-Smith, and they came home with the championship after earning two first place ribbons, a fourth, and a fifth. She also showed All The Answers for Havens Schatt and the owner, Sherri Crawford.

"We had a really good week in Kentucky," said Newman. "Almelo was awesome, and it was my first time showing All The Answers. He has a big stride and tons of scope. I felt better with him on the second day, and we ended up second and third."

Newman competed with Cool Blue and Lifetime Guarantee in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters. On Friday, June 13, Cool Blue, owned by Paris Sellon, captured first and second place. The following day, he scored another blue ribbon in the first over fences class and pinned fifth in the handy hunter. After finishing in fourth place in the under saddle, Cool Blue and Newman were presented the championship award for their consistent success.

"I've gotten to know Blue a lot better over the last few weeks, and this weekend I had a really great time showing him," she smiled. "The second day, Lifetime Guarantee went very well. He won the hack and was second and third over fences." Lifetime Guarantee's top ribbons earned him the reserve championship as well. He is owned by Liza McKee-Cole.

Newman also competed in the ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby aboard Cool Blue and Almelo. "The course was really fun," commented Newman. "We had to jump up onto a bank and canter up the big grass hill, jump a jump on top of it, and canter down the other side. There were a lot of options in the course too."

"In the first round, Almelo went really well," she stated. "We got scores of 82 and 89. I went a short time later with Blue and had an OK trip. We got scores of 71 and 78." After the first round in the derby, Almelo ranked in third place and Cool Blue was eighth in the standings.

"The second round was the handy hunter class, which included opening a gate to start, long gallops to singles, and going up and down the bank the other direction," Newman explained. "Both of my horses went back for the handy class. Blue was the first one I rode, and I had a really good trip. We had scores of 86 plus 7 bonus points and 90 with 8 bonus points. Almelo went really well, but he got differing scores of 89 plus 10 bonus points and 74 and 8 bonus points."

She added, "Cool Blue was second in the handy round and ended up sixth overall, and Almelo was fifth in the handy and second overall. I was extremely happy with both horses."

Katherine Newman will compete this coming week in the Country Heir II Horse Show in Lexington, KY.
