Allwyn Court Rides for Blues at Lexington National Horse Show

Lexington, KY - August 21, 2007 - This past weekend, the riders and horses of Allwyn Court competed at the Lexington National Horse Show in Lexington, VA. Allwyn Court is a hunter and jumper show stable that is based out of Wellington, FL, and Upperville, VA. Owned by Kathy and Gerry Newman and their daughter Katherine, Allwyn Court attends the top horse shows in the nation with its students.

At the Lexington National Horse Show, Sarah Alvarez showed Titleist, owned by The Manhattan Mortgage Company, in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunters. The pair pinned second, third, fourth, and seventh in the division, which was large and competitive this past week. In the older Amateur-Owner Hunters, Mimi Abel-Smith and her mount Almelo won second, third, and also made the call for the two other jogs.

Sixteen-year-old Katherine Newman showed Corvet Z in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters and came away with three first place ribbons and two seconds, which tallied up for the overall championship. In addition, the duo was also awarded the Grand Small Junior Championship and the Grand Overall Junior Championship.

She captured another tricolor with Due North, owned by Cloverleaf Farm, in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters. They won the championship after earning three firsts, a fifth, and a sixth. Due North was presented the Grand Large Junior Championship

Newman piloted Almelo on Saturday in the VHSA Medal Finals as well. "In the first round I scored a 90 and the top five were called back to test," she commented. "I had a pretty good test, and I ended up winning! There was also an overall award, and I finished fifth overall." The overall award calculated scores based on a written horsemanship test, the practicum, and the scores from the medal. The written test score counted for 10 percent, the practicum score weighed 40 percent, and the medal round score counted for 50 percent of the final total. In addition to pinning fifth overall, Newman won the blue ribbon in the Oak Ridge Medal aboard Almelo.
