American Cowboy’s “National Day of the Cowboy” Wins Rising Public Approval

Magazine Becomes Clearinghouse for Celebratory Ideas and Plans

SHERIDAN, WYO.—As awareness spreads of the 2005 passage of a National Day of the American Cowboy resolution, efforts to make the celebration a permanent fixture on the national calendar are gathering steam. Public enthusiasm for the National Day continues to grow, according to sources at American Cowboy magazine, the publication that conceived National Day of the American Cowboy and launched the efforts toward passage some two years ago.

To coordinate and bring focus to celebrations of the July 22, 2006 event, the magazine has created an online database of local celebrations planned for summer 2006. The public is invited to log onto the magazine’s website at http://www.cowboyday.com and find the celebration that is nearest them or best suits their interests. Organizers of events are invited to post their National Day of the American Cowboy event, at no charge, on the site, simply by following online directions.

The first observance of the National Day occurred July 23, 2005 with fanfare at Cheyenne Frontier Days and several local events. President Bush signed the resolution into effect on July 18, leaving little time for advance planning in the inaugural year. More celebrations are planned for 2006. American Cowboy magazine will spotlight National Day of the American Cowboy celebrations in its May/June and July/August editions, with follow-up news and coverage in later issues this year.

U.S. Senator Craig Thomas of Wyoming, the resolution’s sponsor and its leading proponent in the Senate, has launched an initiative to secure passage of the resolution proclaiming July 22, 2006 as National Day of the American Cowboy as part of an overall effort to solidify the event and reinforce organizers’ aims that the observance fall on the fourth Saturday in July, for perpetuity.

“Folks love the National Day of the American Cowboy—that’s for sure,” Thomas said. “We’re excited to once again recognize our country’s cowboys and cowgirls for their important contributions to our nation’s history.”

American Cowboy’s mission is to entertain and enlighten with a wholesome, positive, family-oriented magazine dedicated to the Western lifestyle. Its website is http://www.americancowboy.com
