Annual Horse Photo Contests Return!

Sidney, BC – Horse Community Journals Inc., publishers of Canada’s favourite national horse magazine, THE CANADIAN HORSE JOURNAL, and the leading western Canadian publication, PACIFIC & PRAIRIE HORSE JOURNAL, are pleased to announce the return of their much anticipated annual photo contests: “Celebration of Horses” and “Beautiful Baby.”

“Celebration of Horses” Photo Contest

The “Celebration of Horses” Photo Contest, held by The Canadian Horse Journal, is now in its sixth year, and continues to grow. Entries have already started to come in from eager readers who are chomping at the bit to show off their special four-legged friends! Winners and Runners-Up will be showcased in the Nov/Dec 2006 issue of The Canadian Horse Journal!

Entry Deadline: September 29, 2006

We welcome photos of all breeds and disciplines, in the following categories:

1: Stable Stork: — Your BEST baby pictures

1A – Foals of 2006

1B – Mare & Foal

2: All Things Equine

2A – The Love of Horses: Depicting the human-horse bond

2B – Horses in Action: Working photos, winter scenes

2C – Personality and Humour: Showing off your horse’s “character”

“Beautiful Baby” Photo Constest

Pacific & Prairie Horse Journal is excited to bring back its “Beautiful Baby” Photo Contest – still going strong in its 15th year!Winners and Runners-Up will be showcased in the November 2006 issue of Pacific & Prairie Horse Journal.

Entry Deadline: October 13, 2006

The categories are:

1: “Beautiful Babies of 2006" — For foals of 2006

1A – Foal

1B – Mare & Foal

1C – People & Foal

2: “Horse of My Heart” — For horses & ponies any age, any season

2A – The Love of Horses

2B – Action, Winter & Working Scenes

Contest Guidelines

Photographs will be judged on artistic and technical merit. They should be clear and well-lit, and of good quality. No photos should depict unsafe situations. Please be sure to include the age, sex, and breed of the horse(s), and the name, address and telephone number of both the owner and photographer (on a separate piece of paper). More detailed information about the horse is always appreciated! Photos may be submitted to either the “Celebration of Horses” contest or the “Beautiful Baby” contest, but not both. Please specify which contest and categories you would like your photos to be entered in.

Contest Rules

I. Amateur photographers only; a maximum of three previously unpublished photos per category.

II. Send colour prints, unmounted and unmatted (max. size 8" x 10"). If retaining the original print, send us a good quality reprint (no inkjets please). Digital photos submitted as prints should be printed on photographic paper.

III. To submit digital files, please indicate “Celebration Photo Contest” or “Beautiful Baby Contest” in the subject line, and email to: news@horsejournals.com. Digital photos must be high resolution (eg: 4" x 6" at 300 dpi or 21" x 14" at 72 dpi). Be sure to include in your email the information requested in the Guidelines.

IV. Photos will become the property of this publication and will not be returned. Entrants consent to have their submissions published in THE CANADIAN HORSE JOURNAL and PACIFIC & PRAIRIE HORSE JOURNAL and on our website at http://www.horsejournals.com and elsewhere as determined by the publisher.

V. Winners will be selected by judges chosen by this publication. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and are not redeemable for cash.
