ApHC Exhibitors earn Rider of the Year Award

MOSCOW, Idaho—The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) is proud to announce the recipients of the Rider of the Year awards. The ApHC would like to congratulate Alicia Rapp of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kelly Lynn Sweeney of Broad Brook, Conn. on their accomplishments in 2008.

Alicia was named the English Rider of the Year, while Kelly earned the Western Rider of the Year award.

Achieving this accomplishment is no easy feat—the Rider of the Year award is given to the one non-pro in each division who accumulates the most points in the specific group of classes, Western or English, as follows: Points must be earned in at least four different classes; a minimum of 10 points must be earned in Equitation classes; total points must have been earned in at least three different shows under three different judges; and points are to be counted from all classes in the group whether or not each individual class’s points have been earned in three shows.

Each honoree receives a beautiful belt buckle and will be honored at the 2008 Year-End Open/Non-Pro Awards Banquet June 21 at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson. The banquet will be held on the eve of the 62nd National Appaloosa Show & 2009 World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show.

The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) was established in 1938, with a mission of preserving, promoting and enhancing the Appaloosa breed. The ApHC has since registered more than 670,000 Appaloosas, which are known for their distinctive color, intelligence and even temperament. True to their reputation as an extremely versatile breed, Appaloosas can be found in nearly every discipline including racing, endurance riding and serving as reliable family horses. The international breed registry is headquartered in Moscow, Idaho, the heart of the Palouse region—the Appaloosa breed’s namesake and point of origin.
