The Nation's First Arab American Museum Opens Tomorrow, See Arabian Horse Demonstrations

WHAT: The Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) celebrates the opening of the Arab American National Museum with a free festival for the public tomorrow, May 5.

The celebration is a chance for people to learn about the diverse heritage of Arab Americans by touring the Museum's interactive exhibits which highlight the contributions of Arabs in the United States. The Museum also will offer other opportunities for community participation. Onsite facilities such as an auditorium, classrooms and a one-of-a-kind library and resource center will provide space for educational use. There are currently 15,000 museums in the United States -- not one is dedicated to Arab Americans.

WHEN: Press conference at 10 a.m. will be led by Ismael Ahmed, executive director of ACCESS and will include prominent Arab leaders. Participating leaders include:

* Bader Omar Al-Dafa - Ambassador of Qatar
* Farid Abboud - Ambassador of Lebanon
* Nabil Fahmy - Ambassador of Egypt
* Nail Al-Jubair - representing Saudi Arabia
* Khalid Al-Zayani - representing Behrain
* Kwame Kilpatrick - Mayor of Detroit
* Michael Guido - Mayor of Dearborn
* Debbie Stabenow - United States Senator, Michigan

Ribbon-cutting at 5:30 p.m. will include dignitaries listed above.

Festival activities from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. will include a free sneak peek of the Museum and vouchers for future Museum visits.

WHERE: Arab American National Museum
13624 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, Mich. (located west of Schaefer
Road)

WHY: The Arab American National Museum is a project of ACCESS. The Museum was created after realizing the need to provide an accurate image of Arab Americans and their contributions to the United States.

VISUALS: Michigan Avenue between Schaefer and Maple will be shut down for festivities in front of the museum. Festival photo opportunities will include:
