Artist Booth Malone Extends His Painting Repertoire to Include Artwork of Seven Disciplines of the USET Foundation

Gladstone, NJ- April 26- Booth Malone, of Columbus, GA, is well-known for his beautiful painting of equestrian scenes. While he has mostly worked on settings from eventing, steeplechasing and Pony Club, he has extended his range. Malone has been commissioned by the USET Foundation to do oil paintings of the seven disciplines that the USET Foundation supports: show jumping, dressage, three-day eventing, driving, reining, vaulting and endurance.

Originally from south Florida, he graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Visual Design and spent the next decade with The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta. His corporate duties afforded him the opportunity to travel worldwide and to develop contacts, skills and insights that he continues to apply to his art today.

He has done the cover of The Chronicle of the Horse magazine, and provided the official poster for The Columbus Steeplechase at Callaway Gardens. His work is included in numerous private and corporate collections through out the U.S. Professionally, he is a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, the American Academy of Equine Art and the Columbus Artists' Guild.

Malone’s involvement with horses started after he became a painter. “I was drawn into it slowly after a friend asked me to paint her horse. I went to a horse show and got interested,” Malone said. “I fell into eventing because it looked like the horses were really having fun.”

Malone got more exposure to the horse world when he moved from Atlanta to Columbus, GA. Malone’s wife, Frances, was involved with horses and had a cousin, Ann Hardaway, who competed in eventing for the USET at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. “It’s a great thing for me to paint. I’m happy I stumbled into it. Luckily, I have my wife to help me. She’s my technical advisor for my paintings.”

While at the Rolex Three-Day event, Malone met Sally Ike, the director of High Performance Show Jumping Activities for the USEF. The USET Foundation was interested in having him do an oil painting on each of their seven disciplines. Malone then visited USET Foundation headquarters during the Festival of Champions at Hamilton Farms in Gladstone, NJ.

Malone’s visit to Gladstone opened his eyes to equestrian disciplines that he never knew about, including vaulting and reining. “I thoroughly enjoyed Gladstone. There is more going on than a person can see,” he explained. “It’s awesome to see horses with carriages and walk a hundred yards and see something completely different. It really brought home to me how many different things people do with horses and it was all a pleasure.”

Malone has completed five oil paintings and will work on the two remaining works of art. The USET Foundation will display the paintings at their headquarters and is interested in using the artwork for special promotional items.

The only previous official artist for the USET was the famous horseman, Sam Savitt. Savitt drew the covers for the “Lone Ranger” comics and was known for his fine art. On behalf of the USET, Savitt collaborated in 1977 with William Steinkraus for the book, Great Horses of the United States Equestrian Team, and did numerous other works of art. “I’m happy to follow in his footsteps,” said Malone.

The U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation supports the competition, training, coaching, travel and educational needs of America's elite and developing International High Performance horses and athletes in partnership with the US Equestrian Federation.
