Ashlee Bond and Cadett 7 win the $50,000 FEI World Cup Qualifier at HITS Thermal

THERMAL, CA (February 22, 2009)—Ashlee Bond’s goal to reach April’s FEI World Cup Finals became a little bit more clear on Saturday night when she piloted Little Valley Farm’s Cadett 7 to the blue ribbon in the $50,000 FEI World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix, presented by Adequan at the HITS Desert Horse Park, in Thermal, California.

Bond and Cadett 7 got the best of 21 riders who challenged Course Designer Aki Ylanne's (Riihimaki, Finland) first round course and the additional three who advanced to the jump-off. The win marks the second win of the week for Bond. Bond and Cadett 7 also won the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix on Thursday and have now captured three Grand Prix victories in the last two weeks.

With her triumph, Bond earned some valuable FEI World Cup points and currently sits in the top five of the FEI World Cup Standings U.S. West Coast League. “I would love to be at the World Cup,” said Bond. “That has always been a goal of mine. I’have been blessed with such an amazing horse and the pieces are starting to come together.”

“Cadett is a 12 year-old gelding that I started riding in June," continued Bond. "He is an incredible horse that just needed someone to believe in him. He is proving to be the most incredible horse that I have ever had the privilege of riding."

Australian rider Harley Brown was first to go in the jump-off and set the pace right from the start with a clear round in 48.48 aboard Oak Park Group’s Cassiato.

Canadian Olympian John Pearce rode Forest View Farm’s Son of a Gun next in the jump-off and had four faults to finish in third place. Son of a Gun is just 10 years old, and Pearce purchased him last March from John Perez. “He is one to keep an eye on,” said Pearce, “I think he can be as good of a horse as I have ever had.”

Bond and Cadett 7 sat in the envious last-to-go spot and stopped the clock in 45.23, a full three seconds faster than Brown, to win the class. “I think we have endless potential,” said Bond, “I hope that we can prove that in the near future. I know in my heart that we will keep showing more and more ability as we get to know each other.”

With Bond’s victory, she not only earned precious FEI World Cup Points, but also earned valuable points for the Platinum Performance Leading World Cup Qualifier Rider at the 2009 HITS Desert Circuit. Bond is in the lead with 78 total points. In second place is Mandy Porter with 40 points.

HITS, Inc. is a special events management company primarily focused on producing hunter/jumper horse shows. Based in upstate New York in the village of Saugerties, HITS produced its first horse show circuit in Gainesville, Florida in 1982. Since that time, HITS has grown into a nationwide company with world-class hunter/jumper circuits in California, Florida, Arizona, New York and Virginia.
