Ashley Foster Wins Stewart Warner Trophy at Capital Challenge Horse Show, Over the Hill Farm Riders Have Great Performances

Upper Marlboro, MD- October 12- It was a great week for the horses and riders of Over the Hill Farm at the Capital Challenge Horse Show, held October 1-9, 2005.

The highlight of the week was young Ashley Foster, who won the Stewart Warner Trophy. Foster piloted the famous small pony America for owner Lauren Hogan of Tampa, Florida. She also rode the small pony Fancy Feet for trainer Bill Schaub and Avera Ventures.

The judges give the Stewart Warner Award to the junior rider who shows potential to be a top hunter rider. The award is donated by Don Stewart and Louise Serio in memory of their mothers. This is the second year in a row that Over the Hill Farm has won the award. Last year, the award was given to Lauren Hogan. Foster comes from an equestrian family; her mother is Patty Foster and her aunt is Mary Lisa Leffler of Rolling Acres Farm in Maryland.

While Lauren Hogan did not win every division in the Pony Hunters like she did last year, she still had a very successful show. She rode her own pony, Time to Talk, to second and seventh place finishes in the Large Pony Hunters and finished sixth in the World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Pony Challenge. She also rode High Fashion, owned by J&M King Trust and Laura King Kaplan, to a fifth place ribbon in the Medium Pony Hunters.

Schaefer Raposa of Clinton, New York rode HiLite to a third place finish in the Small Pony Hunter Conformation class. Hi Lite is owned by Bill Schaub, Lucille Oaken, and Redfield Farm. In a Dream, the fancy dapple grey pony, was imported from Europe by Bill Schaub. He showed at Capital Challenge with his new owner, 13 year old Kaitlin Porath, and trainer Jack Towell. Together, they clinched the win in the WCHR Children’s Hunter Classic.

Katie Hogan had a solid week of showing with consistent rides in the Large Pony Hunters on Hint of Blue. She also piloted Blew By You in the Children’s Adult Jumpers. They only had one rail on a very difficult course in a class of 71 competitors.

Caroline Cramer had a good weekend in the equitation divisions. She was eighth in the Show Circuit Magazine NCM Equitation flat class. Cramer also competed in the Show Circuit Magazine Equitation Finals and finished in thirteenth place.

A trio of horses pulled double duty at the Capital Challenge last week. Professional rider Hunt Tosh picked up the ride on two of the horses in the Future Hunter divisions. On Role Model, owned by Courtney Rodrigue, they finished second in the Non-Thoroughbred Stake over fences class and seventh in the under saddle. He also rode Turning Point, owned by Bethany Klein, to second and sixth place ribbons in the Future Hunter TB/TB Cross division.

These two horses then competed in the Children’s Hunter divisions with their owners. Rodrigue and Role Model had a second place finish in the Children’s 15-17 division, while Klein and Turning Point were sixth in an over fences class of the Children’s 14 & Under. Tosh also rode Toblerone, owned by Lee Cesery, to a seventh place in the Future Hunters 6 Years & Over.

Love Letter was very successful in the Future Hunter Mares division with professional Erynn Ballard. Ballard rode the beautiful mare for Avera Ventures to first, fourth, and fifth place ribbons over fences and a fourth place under saddle. These ribbons gave them the reserve championship in the division. Megan Massaro then took over the ride in the Children’s 15-17 division, where they finished third and fifth.

The World Championship Hunter Rider Regional standings were awarded in a special ceremony at Capital Challenge. Over the Hill Farm riders were at the top of the leader board in three different divisions for the Southeast region. Hunt Tosh won the Professional division, Lee Cesery captured the Amateur-Owner division title, and Roberta Previ was the best in the Adult Amateur division. Bethany Klein finished third in the Children’s division.

Over the Hill Farm will move on to compete at another indoor Finals show this week. They will be sure to come away with top ribbons at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show, held in Harrisburg, PA, on October 13-22.
