Athena Technologies Backs Local Equestrian's Bid for Olympic Glory
Equestrian News Release
WARRENTON, Va., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Athena Technologies, Inc., will provide active support and financial assistance to a 2008 Olympics "eventing" hopeful, Ms. Jennifer Simmons of Middleburg, VA. An avid horsewoman since childhood, Simmons is well known as a top, national-level competitor by the equestrian community of Middleburg, Fauquier County, and Northern Virginia.
Eventing, as defined by the United States Eventing Association (http://www.eventingusa.com/), consists of three principal components -- dressage, endurance/cross-country, and show jumping. Riders participating in USEA activities typically need sponsorship to reach the upper levels of the sport. Athena's underwriting of Simmons' career brings together diverse elements of community involvement that reflect the corporate philosophy of company founder and CEO, Dr. David Vos.
"Just as in our business, where we stay ahead of the curve through innovation and application, so getting out in front early to support a local talent seems natural," Vos said recently. "Jen Simmons exemplifies the qualities of determination, perseverance, commitment, and honor that should be a part of every business -- and personal -- plan." In addition, Vos noted, he received scholarships and similar assistance in his youth, "a leg up" that today he says helped hone a competitive and fair-minded approach to business and life's challenges.
"Our company has found a good home in Fauquier County, Virginia, and we consider it a responsibility to be a contributor to our community," Vos explained. "Supporting a top quality athlete in a sport that's important to the area both culturally and economically, is a small gesture to this end, and helps promote goodwill through endorsement of our local community."
