Atlanta Spring Brings a Bouquet of Wins for DFG Stables

Conyers, GA March 23, 2009—While cherry blossoms are blooming around the Georgia International Horse Park so too are the talented riders of the Aiken, SC based DFG Stables. Kicking off the first week of the Atlanta Spring Classics with a bouquet of sweet wins.

Head trainer Daniel Geitner started the week with a pair of Championship honors riding Point Taken for owner Cornelia Buckley in the Hopeful Hunters and Special 2’9 Hunters divisions. Geitner also picked up a Reserve Championship in the Pre Green 3’ Hunters with Laura Regan’s entry Orient de Mesille and a 3rd place aboard Regan’s Zelano. In the Green Conformation section Geitner gathered up 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons for owner Michele Alison riding Mystic Castle.

Geitner turned up the heat in Thursday’s Open Jumper Welcome Stake in the irons of Trading Places for owner Kyle Register, with a narrow 2nd place finish to Joe Fargis- less than a second separated the two competitors. “Just being in the same arena with Joe is an honor. And to go head to head, well that’s just exciting.” the modest Geitner said. Also in the top ranks of the Welcome Stake were Kitt Ritter and Jumbo Jet who placed 5th . Later Daniel captured 3rd place with Laura Regan’s entry Weidan in the 6 year-old Young Jumpers section. As the weekend drew near he prepped Mrs. Janet Peterson’s pride and joy Artur 28 for the featured event, the $25,000 Cherry Blossom Grand Prix. “He’s [Artur] just a happy horse! Bucking around like a youngster!” Mrs. Peterson shared, “And Daniel is great with him- he gets such wonderful care. Artur’s done so many big things in the past and right now we’re all having some fun.” Geitner and Artur were among the nine to make it into the jump off and brought home a well-earned 6th place finish.

Other members of the DFG family enjoying some spring fever in the jumper arena included Kitt Ritter piloting mom Ann’s Jumbo Jet to a 2nd place finish in the NHJL High Junior-Amateur Jumper Classic. While owner-rider Kathryn Crump claimed the 5th position in the NHJL Low Junior-Amateur Jumper Classic. And Dr Juan Gamboa landed in the 2nd position of the NHJL Child-Adult Jumper Classic with Partizan. Also scoring some ribbon time this week was assistant trainer JF Gagne taking The Bus to a 4th place finish in the Meter 1.20 Open Jumper Division and Catherine Stumberg picked up a red ribbon riding Snook in the Adult Jumper section.

Geitner devoted most of his time to coaching and simply enjoying a beautiful spring weekend with DFG family members. Time that was well rewarded for many in the hunter divisions, such as Molly Donohue who picked up a 2nd place honor in the NHJL NAL WIHS Children’s (15-17) Hunter Classic partnered with the Kimberly Quinn owned Sinatra. Earlier on this duo scored a pair of red ribbons in the same divisions. And owner-rider Elizabeth Tarumianz jumped Bocelli into the 5th position of the NHJL NAL WIHS Amateur Owner (18-35) Hunter Classic. Kyle Register and Impression added a blue ribbon to their collection with a stellar ride in the Amateur Owner Hunter ( 36 & Over) division.

Daniel and the DFG family will continue celebrating the arrival of spring in Conyers, GA for another great week of competition at the Atlanta Spring Classics.
