Equestrian News Release
The Atlanta Steeplechase, which takes place April 14, 2007 at Kingston Downs near Rome, GA., has announced new non-profit beneficiaries; Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. As title beneficiaries they will receive the charitable proceeds of this year’s 42nd annual steeplechase event, revenue that enables them to accomplish their esteemed missions. Proceeds from the Atlanta Steeplechase will go toward building a much needed new hospital for animals and supporting the educational programs of the College
"We are so pleased to join forces with these two organizations and look forward to working with the wonderful staff at UGA and Starlight in support of their fundraising goals," says Jean Bird, Executive Director of the Atlanta Steeplechase. "Next year’s event will be the largest partnership of resources and leadership in the history of our efforts."
Along with the Steeplechase’s title beneficiaries, two additional Georgia non-profits will receive programming support from net proceeds, the American Red Cross Coosa Valley Chapter and Chastain Park Therapeutic Riding Program.
"We are very energized by the leadership and fundraising potential of our new partnerships," says Chairman of the Atlanta Steeplechase Board of Stewards, Hal Barry." [The] event is going to redefine the meaning of success for us."
The Atlanta Steeplechase is one of 27 spring/summer races sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association (NSA). This year’s field of horses and jockeys will compete for over $170,000 in purse money, including Danielle Hodsdon who is currently the number one winning steeplechase jockey in the country with 89 starts this season and with half a million dollars in prize money.
