Australian Event Rider Re-Locates to USA

Australian three day event rider Ryan Wood has re-located to the USA as of February 2008. Currently based at Bruce Davidson’s stable in Pennsylvania, Wood has chosen to leave his native Australia, with the goal of advancing his career and developing business partnerships here in America. Having overcome great odds from a harrowing recent injury, Ryan is now back in training and busy seeking interested parties for sponsorship, ownership and investment opportunities.

The first few months here have not been plain sailing for Wood who is now out of the Rolex event in April, due to injuries sustained in a fall at the Ocala Horse trials in February. Although recovering well, Ryan required nine hours of reconstructive surgery on his face. This combined with time off for a kneecap fracture, has meant he has been out of the saddle for over 5 weeks. “I am realizing I am not invincible,” says Wood, who, with the scars to prove it, is even more dedicated and determined to make his big move to the states successful.

Ryan is a member of the Australian Institute of Sport and owns and operates Woodstock Eventing, a well respected and successful business in Australia producing top class horses.

Wood arrived in the US with only two horses, Koyuna Azgard (a 4 star horse) and Wynella Wolverine (recent winner at Poplar Place), a classy prospect he is looking to sell or syndicate to new owners in the US and continue competing.

“It was certainly not a small move, but I am very excited about being in America!”says Wood. “ It was a daunting decision to make, but one I felt I had to make in the best interests of my career. I am lucky to have the support of my family and friends at home and of course, Bruce.”

Ryan may not be as pretty as he was, before his fall but nothing has changed about his heart and his good old Aussie “guts”!

Now the “come back kid from OZ” is setting his sights on the 2012 Olympics, with Rolex 2009 and the World Equestrian Games as stepping stones to that goal.
