Bettina Hoy still heading the field after the jumping

“We have got an obligation to fulfil in Aachen, because we have won every Nations Cup here so far and we don’t want this year to be an exception,“ said the National Eventing Coach, Hans Melzer, motivating his team. Things are looking good so far, even if the central eventing challenge, the cross-country, is still to come. This thrilling competition isn’t on the agenda until Saturday at the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen 2009. Bettina Hoy is still in first place with Ringwood Cockatoo, with whom she won the gold medal at the World Championships. She picked up 4 faults in the jumping competition, finishing 17th, however she is still in the lead in the overall results with a total score of 33.40 points after her excellent performance in the dressage. Kai-Steffen Meier delivered the best jumping result with the Trakehner mare TSF Karascada, jumping clear in a time of 80.78 seconds. However, he only ranks 22nd in the overall results.

The Australian rider, Lucinda Fredericks, is currently lying second in the interim results of the DHL Prize with Headley Britannia and a score of 41.50 points, ahead of the Dutch eventer, Tim Lips, on Van Schijndels Owaola. Germany is currently in the lead in the team classification, the Nations Cup, with a total score of 120.30 points, ahead of Great Britain with 160.70 points and France, who have 175.50 points in total.
