Bettina Scherer & Rosella Low Hunter Champion

WELLINGTON, Fla., Feb. 14--Love was in the air Thursday for Rosella and Bettina Scherer as they took home the Grand Champion honors for the Low Hunters 2 ft. 6 ins. at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center Thursday.

The Wellington resident and her eight-year-old bay Hanoverian mare battled the thunderstorm Wednesday to take home the blue ribbon in both over fences classes. Thursday, they finished their division with high ribbons in every class making them the champion.

Bettina and Rosella have been showing together for two years. They were circuit high point champion for the year at the Palm Beach County Horseman's shows.

"This is a dream for me to come here (Winter Equestrian Festival) and win Grand Champion," Bettina said. "We did better in the mud yesterday so I guess you could call her a mud horse. She is still green but we've come a long way."

Ten-year-old chestnut gelding, Jazz, ridden by Bryan Baldwin and owned by Meralex Farm, of Tampa, Fla. and the eight-year-old bay gelding, Triton, ridden by Christina Fiore of Wellington and owned by Christian Curry, of Franklin, Tenn. tied for reserve champion.
